woo hoo, a raid…

Well our brother floor (6th Ashton) raided us tonight and we played some games and talked with different people as we walked to Queen Anne and back. It was fun. We played some games in the Safeway at the top of the block and caused a bit of mischief. I met some really cool guys. I feel bad because one guy told me his entire history, but I didn’t catch his name. I called him Forest Gump the whole time because the liked to run and he got a scholarship to this school through track. He was really cute and nice, but he was also a freshman, so he’s not in the school directory…and I can’t look up his name.
I went ealier today to Rainier Avenue to help tutor some kids at an outreach ministry. It was nice to get out and do something that I wanted to do. I didn’t know anybody else until I got there and was introduced. I don’t know why, but I just felt like I wanted to go and do something on my own and not just because friends were doing it or because it was required. After I got back from tutoring I ran into Fraser when I was getting grub in Gwinn and he invited me to come and watch Dumb and Dumber. Funny movie, I’ve seen it like a gazillion times. But it was fun, He turned 20 two days ago and he told me what the guys on his floor did to him for his birthday. They took him out to a really nice dinner and then when they got back they told him it was the trditional boxer run for their floor and so a few of them stripped down to their boxers and the rest went and hid. Fraser ran out in his boxers with the few that did it too to fool him. Once they got him out in the parking lot he saw that the rest of the guys were fully clothed. They tackled him and stripped off his boxers, duck taped his hands behind his back and stuffed him into a sleeping bag and threw him into the back of a truck. They drove him up to Ashton and threw him on the second floor on the girls side, face down and then left him there. It was 15 minutes before floor hours and he was stranded. So after trying to explain to the girls why he was duck taped naked in a sleeping bag and lying on their floor, they let him out of the building and he hopped down the steep hill back to his dorm were he ran into a girl he knew and she used her key to get him inside and he was able to get into her bathroom and try to change into shorts. His friend had come by earlier to attempt to rescue him but all he was able to do was throw him a pair of shorts. So she used a knife to cut him out of the tape and he got his shorts on and went back to his room. He was super ticked off so he threw the sleeping bag out of his window and it’s still hanging in the tree outside in the parking lot below his window. haha. Interesting, huh?
So yea, I’m still wired and I want to go do something. I feel a bit lonely because it seemed sort of like our brother floor gave us a brush off. Like “well, the raid is over, it was nice meeting you…later.” I’m sure they were just being nice and whatever, but I was still a bit bummed about that. They probably didn’t mean for it to sound the way it came out.
I think I’m a little bit in the dumps tonight because, well…I’ve been reminded of a special person and that person is no longer in my life and I miss having that person around. I hate this feeling! Aaarrghh! Lord, please calm my heart!
I dunno, maybe it’s the weather…blah…I hope so.

Some random thoughts before class starts….

Yes, I took a moment before my next class to stop and think. To ponder the oddities of life and engage in a natural God-given talent of random questions.

1. Do fish ever sleep?

2. Can Altoids go bad?

3. Why is it that all the brilliant ideas come to mind when you don’t have a paper or pencil on hand?

4. Were Jack and Jill coworkers? Did they get workers comp. for any injuries they got from rolling down that hill? Who were they fetching water for anyway? Why didn’t that person just get their own water? Who puts a well at the top of a hill anyway?

That is all for today kids! Don’t forget, if knowing is half the battle, thinking gets you a quarter of the way there!

Super cool email I got from a friend

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word refrigeration mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Jeopardy’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, “How about going to lunch in a half hour?” She would gasp and stammer, “I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain.” And my personal favorite: “It’s Monday.” …She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Stevie toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of “I’m going to”, “I plan on”, and “Someday, when things are settled down a bit.”

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair ofRollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker.

If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now…go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to……not something on your SHOULD DO list.

If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask, “How are you?” Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?

Ever told your child, “We’ll do it tomorrow.” And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say “Hi”?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift….Thrown away… Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

It’s National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND. If it comes back to you, then you’ll know you have a circle of friends

Walking Hormones…

Yes, my floor is full of walking hormones. My roommate and I came to this conclusion not too long ago. All but four girls on our floor are freshman, so I guess they sort of have an excuse. But honestly, it gets old after a while.
My roommate was talking with her mom on the phone the other day. Naturally the conversation came to the point where they talk about “the roommate” (which is me). And she starts talking about my weekly ‘misfortunes’, and more times than not, those misfortunes have to do with guys. Just my luck, eh?
She told her mom about my great journey to the guy floors on a mission to find quotes for three different articles. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story, I needed some quotes for a story concerning a new building on campus and I had to get some quotes from guys because the quotes I already had were all from girls. So I ventured to the guy floors in our hall and naturally I arrived at an awkward time. The doors to the elevator open and there is a guy walking down the hall with nothing but a towel (a very small towel) sagging around his hips. I feel particularly bad for the freshman who came with me, and I can’t even imagine how embarrassed the guy in the unusually small towel was. haha.
But that’s just one incident out of many that she enlightened her mom about, haha. It was right after that episode that I made the grand proclimation to my roommate that my future husband probably doesn’t even go to this school.
Somehow, after she updated her mom on all of my antics for the week, her mom came to the conclusion for all I know, I’ll probably end up with a vaccuum salesman or something. So now, every time my roomate sees a cute guy which she feels the need to point out to me, she says something to the extent of “Hey, that looks like a potential Vaccuum-Boy!” haha…but hey, you never know, right?
